  • DAY 6 — WHEN FAMILY IS THE WOUND, NOT THE COMFORT

    December 14, 2025
December forces contact with people who hurt you. Old wounds reopen. Old roles return. Old trauma resurfaces. Depression often spikes not from loneliness, but from proximity to dysfunction. You are not obligated to reenact childhood just because it’s Christmas. God Himself acknowledges that family can fail.
    When Family is the Wound

When Family is the Wound, Not the Comfort

    Day 6

“Though my father and mother forsake me…”

    —Psalm 27:10

    Narrative:

December forces contact with people who hurt you.
    Old wounds reopen.
    Old roles return.
    Old trauma resurfaces.

Depression often spikes not from loneliness, but from proximity to dysfunction.

You are not obligated to reenact childhood just because it’s Christmas. God Himself acknowledges that family can fail.

You are not crazy. You are not dramatic. You are not disloyal for being triggered.

Supporting Scripture: Matthew 10:36; Exodus 3:7

    Questions:

    1. Who drains or damages you during the holidays?
    2. What boundary do you need to honor?
    3. What does safety look like for you?

    Prayer:

God, protect me from emotional harm. Give me courage to set boundaries. Heal the wounds family has carved into me. Amen.
